제목 Engymatic biofuel cells using bioanodic and/or biocathodic catalysts
초록 Developing applications like enzymatic biofuel cells (EBCs) has been important because there have been much demands for the applications. Furthermore, the EBCs belong to system producing clean energy in that they convert eco-friendly bioenergy extracted from bioresources into electrical energy. Owing to such favourable prospects, many attempts have been made to exploit proper EBC system as implantable devices etc. However, the EBC system still has drawbacks to be addressed and main one of the issues is to improve redox reaction rates of both electrodes (bioanode and biocathode) because their reactions are still slow. To facilitate the reactions, in this study, new biocatalytic structures are introduced. Regarding the bioanode, biocatalyst consisting of glucose oxidase (GOx) including dye mediator and cross-linker/entrapping polymer is suggested, while regarding the biocathode, biocatalyst consisting of the GOx, Hemin and cross-linker/entrapping polymer is proposed. Also, to elucidate the reaction mechanism, both direct electron transfer and mediator electron transfer theory are used. As a result of that, we can develop the biocatalysts showing the relatively high reaction rate and appropriate onset potential and the catalysts are used for operating the EBCs with advancement in performance.
