제목 Adsorption Equilibrium Characteristics of Copper Ions and Phenol Binary System Using Composite Alginate Beads
초록 Alginate, which exists in natural polymer, is one of the polysaccharide. Alginate has been used in many areas such as biomedical field since it is a potentially useful material owing to its biocompatibility, non-toxicity and biodegradability. It has high affinity and selectivity for heavy metal ions. Although activated carbon having a high surface area is widely used for the removal of organic contaminant from dilute aqueous solution, it is not very effective in treating the heavy metals and radioactive materials. In this work, activated carbon-alginate composite (AAC) beads were made to remove organics and inorganic materials. The composite particles were prepared by mixing different amounts of powdered activated carbons with sodium alginate solution (1:0.5; 1:1; 1:2), and then the adsorption characteristics of AAC beads was investigated to adsorb phenol and copper ions simultaneously.
