Modeling and simulation studies were performed using a mono-ethanol amine (MEA) aqueous solution to absorb CO2 contained in the DME (Dimethyl Ether) reactor outlet stream. An amine special thermodynamic package built in PRO/II with PROVISION, a general-purpose chemical process simulator, was utilized to model the overall CO2 absorption. A suitable solvent-to-feed ratio in a CO2 absorber was determined to absorb most of the CO2 contained in the feed stream and to fix the lean solvent circulation rate. The optimum feed tray location, which minimizes the MEA regenerator reboiler heat duty and CO2 loading in a lean solvent, was determined. |
