Influence of Amine Functionalized Graphene nanosheets on the Properties of Epoxy/Graphene Nanocomposites |

In this work, the influence of amine functionalized graphene nanosheet (GNS) composites on the properties of epoxy/graphene nanocomposites has been investigated. Initially, the graphene oxide (GO) prepared through chemical exfoliation of graphite is subjected to two amidation reaction using thionyl chloride and hexamethylene diamine to generate amine grafted GNS. Epoxy/graphene nanocomposites have been prepared with varying wt % loading of amine functionalized GNS. Systematic investigation using Fourier transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) has been carried out to understand the influence of amine functionalized GNS on the curing kinetics of epoxy nanocomposites. The remarkable improvement in mechanical and electrical properties is observed on loading amine functionalized graphene, which is corroborated to enhanced epoxy-graphene interaction as well as fine dispersion of graphene in the epoxy matrix. |
