Efficient Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction Using 3D Porous Carbon and Graphitic Carbon Nitride Composite |

g-C3N4, called graphitic carbon nitride, is one of the widely used photocatalyst for CO2 reduction due to its visible light responsive and thermally stable properties and favorable CB position. However, the photo-generated charges are easily recombined and surface area is too small (~10m2/g) in case of pure bulk g-C3N4. To overcome those limitations in previous researches, nanosheets g-C3N4 was used by exfoliating bulk g-C3N4 or it was combined with other conducting matrixes to improve the charge separation efficiency. In this work, we fabricated 3D porous heterostructure composed of conductive carbon and g-C3N4 with a facile synthetic method. We used urea as a precursor of g-C3N4 and it produced uniformly coated g-C3N4 along the carbon chains. This composite showed an enhanced CO2 photo-reduction activity compared to pure g-C3N4, expected to result from the charge separation effect of conductive carbon and enhanced surface area from its porous structure. |
