Self-assembly of amphiphilic peptides, particularly pH-responsive block peptides, have attracted interest in supramolecular chemistry because its secondary structural change by pH can lead to the structural transformation. Herein, we synthesized amphiphilic peptides consisting of both α-helix and β-sheet forming scaffolds with pH-responsive character. Their secondary structures in aqueous solution were confirmed by circular dichroism (CD) under various pH conditions. Self-assembled structures were observed by TEM and AFM. At low pH, peptides showed to form compact α-helix and β-sheet conformation. Interestingly, conformational change began to occur at high pH, and the consequent structural change of whole aggregates was observed. we believe that this research is valuable for nanomaterials used in pharmaceutical, biomedical and drug delivery applications. |
