We report on the effects of the metal oxide hole injection layer (HIL) on the performance of top-emission organic light-emitting devices consisting of Ag anode / metal oxide / N,N'-Di-1-naphthyl-N,N'-diphenylbenzidine (NPB) / tris-8- hydroxyquinoline aluminum (Alq3) / Yb / Ag. In particular, metal oxides such as molybdenum oxide (MoOx), and rhenium oxides (ReOx) are used as HIL on Ag anode electrode. For the whole devices with metal oxide HIL, it is shown that I-V characteristics are greatly improved compared to that without metal oxide HIL. Based on the I-V-T characteristics of the hole-only devices and electrostatic force microscopy analysis, possible injection mechanisms of the metal oxide interlayer between NPB and Ag anode are described in terms of interface energy barrier and tunneling behavior. |
