In recent years, the development of biodegradable polymers and the reinforced composites with natural fibers have received great attentions. Poly lactic acid (PLA) is a bio-degradable polyester which can be derived from renewable resources such as starch. And a cellulose nanofibers(CNFs) derived renewable biomass has an advantage as fillers. When using nano cellulose fibers, due to their polar surface, it is difficult to disperse CNFs uniformly in a non-polar polymer matrix. In this current study, the surface treated nanocellulose was prepared to improve its dispersion. After preparation of nanocellulose added composite solution, the cellulose nanofibers reinforced PLA films was prepared by solution casting. The effect of cellulose nanofibers contents on the PLA nanocomposites was investigated in terms of mechanical, thermal, and rheological properties.
