Modified Polycaprolactone Powders for the Laser Sintering Processing |

A simple functionally graded structure was pursued through the laser sintering process of polycaprolactone (PCL). Spherical PCL powders were prepared from an irregularly shaped commercial product via recrystallization or spraying. The two different methods generated PCL powders with different molecular weights, which led distinctively dissimilar mechanical properties when objects of desired shapes were prepared through laser sintering performed by Nd:YLF laser irradiation (349-nm wavelength). The two different PCL powders were integrated into a structure, where the part with the low molecular weight PCL was selectively fractured upon mechanical stress. |
