Silica nanowires were prepared by controlled growth on water droplets in pentanol solution with tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS), polyvinylpyrollidone (PVP), sodium citrates and pentanol. TEOS was initially dissolved in pentanol but slowly hydrolyzed which was dissolved in water droplets. Due to the ammonia in water droplets, hydrolyzed TEOS were condensed into chain and deposited in arbitrary site on water droplets. Since water was involved sol-gel reaction but never consumed, water droplets were kept and placed on one end of silica nanowires through which TEOS were kept provided. We used nanowires as filler in polymer substrates (Polyethersulfone), which show 73 % transmittance and 54 ppm/oC of coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). |
