Transparent alumina sol was prepared by hydration of aluminum isopropoxide (AIP) in distilled water and used to coat natural graphite. Alumina-coated graphite, which has electrical insulating property and thermal conductivity, was synthesized by sol-gel method which is realtively cheaper process. The amount of AIP controls the degree of alumnia coating on graphite. Used graphite particle is the mixture of 44 micrometer and 6 micrometer. The alumina-coatdd graphite was used as filler in Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). As a result, the thermal conductivity of the PDMS/filler composite sheet was generally increased for high filled alumina-coated graphite while retaining the insulating property. The resulting composite was characterized by Quick thermal conductivity meter (QTM-500), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electrical conductivity measurement. |
