Recently, the demand for the self-healing polymers is significantly increased due to the potential applications for the improvement of the durability of the parts via the self-healing mechanism in various products. Therefore, a variety of self-healing chemistries of polymeric materials are being studied and various self-healing methods are being proposed for thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) which is being applied in many industry fields such as foams, coatings, adhesives and elastomers. In this study, azomethine linkage was introduced into the TPU back bone to impart self-healing properties by the reversible nature from the exchange reactions of azomethin groups in poly (azomethine-co-urethane) (PAU). Especially, the effect of concentration of azomethine group and distribution of azomethine linkages on the self-healing properties were investigated experimentally. |
