This study addresses the design problem of the carbon dioxide disposal network consisting of various activities such as capture, sequestration, storage, transportation. The purpose of this study is to develop a stochastic model to have consideration for the effect of the uncertainty in the carbon dioxide activities and investigate the total network costs of various configurations of carbon dioxide disposal networks in an uncertain environment for carbon dioxide demand. A deterministic optimization model was first improved from previously existed model. A stochastic formulation based on the two-stage programming approach was then proposed to assure more realistic results. Uncertainty was introduced in the carbon dioxide disposal demand of each region, which is estimated with an energy statistic data and energy policy road-map. This model was applied to evaluate the future carbon dioxide disposal network of Korea. This study is expected to help decision-makers to determine the investment strategy for building upcarbon dioxide infrastructures, and to analyze the effect of uncertainty on the configurations. |
