Starch modified with vinyltrimethoxysilane(VTMS) was chemically incorporated into the chain of waterborne polyurethane(WPU) by covalent bonds. Structures, thermal and mechanical properties of the WPU cast film have been characterized by ATR, DMA and UTM. Films were subsequently subjected to enzymatic hydrolysis, followed by biodegradability tests. Films incubated in buffer solution showed only a moderate weight loss in the first two weeks, while those incubated in α-amylase solution showed a very fast weight loss. As expected, scanning electron microscopy analysis of α-amylase degraded films exhibited rough surface morphology. |
