Preparation and characterization of magnetic starch microparticles as carrier for proteins and drugs |

Magnetic starch microparticles could be used drug targeting. We prepared polymeric microparticles of poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA)-dextran (DP) conjugate. The DP conjugate was synthesized by conjugating the carboxylic acid end of PLGA and the hydroxyl group of dextran using N,N’-dicyclohexyl carbodiimide (DCC) as the coupling agent. In order to make the iron oxide derivative, ferric chloride and iron (II) sulfate heptahydrate were reacted in aqueous ammonia for seconds. And then DP was dissolved in DMSO. Glutaric aldehyde and iron oxide which has NH2 were added in this solution under nitrogen atmosphere at room temperature for 24 hrs. DP-iron oxide derivative was obtained from DMSO using the precipitation in ethanol. The results of experiment were confirmed with AFM. Future work is that drugs and proteins will be attached in this material for targeting. |
