Glycerol is valuable byproduct in the production of biodiesel and fatty acids. The electrochemical conversion of glycerol is a promising technology that can produce valuable chemicals such as dihydroxyacetone, glyceraldehyde, and glyceric acid by selective oxidation reaction and electrical energy by a full oxidation reaction. In this study, we investigate PtRe/C catalysts for electrocatalytic glycerol oxidation in acidic electrolyte. PtRe/C catalysts with different Pt/Re atomic ratios are synthesized by the impregnation method with subsequent heat treatment in H2 atmosphere and characterized by using XRD, TEM, and XPS. The electrocatalytic conversion of glycerol over the PtRe/C catalysts are investigated using CV and CA with the reaction product analysis by HPLC. |
