Fabrication of conjugated polymer pattern on solid substrate has been achieved significant attention. Common office inkjet printers can be used to generate flexible designs of functional materials on substrates on a large scale and in an inexpensive manner. However, patterning of conjugated polymer using common office inkjet printer has been limited to few examples such as polyaniline and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), because only water compatible ink is allowed. As a breakthrough for patterning of insoluble conjugated polymer, we applied reactive inkjet printing (RIJ) method. Inkjet printing of hydrophilic terephthaldehyde, bis(triphenyl phosphonium salt) and base solutions using a common office inkjet printer enabled easy fabrication of PPV patterns on solid substrate. Printing of three ink solutions afforded in-situ Wittig reaction, and generated fluorescent PPV patterns on sold substrates such as glass, PDMS and paper substrates. |
