제목 Effects of Surface Charge Production and Induction of Adsorbate by Impregnant on Coconut Based Activated Carbon
초록 This research show the process involving several steps, as expected, from the manufacture of surface modified activated carbon to adsorption of adsorbate, which manifests electrochemical state of the surface of surface modified activated carbon. The degree and the scope of modification of the surface vary depending on manufacturing method, surface properties of virgin activated carbon, serving as a support, and chemical state of impregnant. As potassium, a metal with the highest ionization potential, has a high reactivity, the metal is deemed to maintain its ionized state together with hydroxide ion on the surface. When virgin activated carbon is submerged into metal hydroxide solution, metal ions approach to virgin activated carbon as the metal ions have a very high reactivity. Hydroxide ions easily adhere to virgin activated carbon coated with potassium ions. The electrochemical state of the final surface modified activated carbon becomes highly alkaline surface owing to co-existence of metal ions and basic hydroxide ions.
