Micro-structural effects of NASICON structure electrolytes for lithium ion batteries prepared by mechanical milling |

Li1+xAlxTi2-x(PO4)3, NASICON structure electrolytes for lithium ion batteries, were prepared through starting materials were nano-sized and amorphousized by mechanical milling. The changes of crystalline structures and grains were studied by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The milled amorphous sample was crystallized to pure Li1+xAlxTi2-x(PO4)3 without a grain growth of other structures, but non-milled specimen showed complex diffraction peaks including Li(PO3) and TiP2O7 structures originated at Ti-poor and Li-poor regions. The scanning electron microscope revealed the presence of primary crystalline phase with an average grain size of 1 μm. The electrochemical characterization investigated by AC impedance analyzer showed grain and grain boundary contributions . |
