Fabrication and Characterization of Surface Modified Silk Fibroin Nanofibrous Mats for Tissue Engineering |

Silk fibroin(SF) is widely used for tissue engineering scaffold because of their biocompatibility, biodegradability and non-toxicity. As a processing method of this materials, we have been used electrospinning technique which is simply used to fabricate porous nanofibrous sheet from a polymer solution. The structural changes of SF nanofibers treated with water vapor were investigated using FTIR and 13C CP/ MAS NMR spectroscopy. Conformational transitions of SF from random coil to ß-sheet structures were induced by water vapor treatment and were strongly dependent on the treatment time and temperature. The surface of SF nanofibrous mats was treated by fluorine gas plasma to get highly hydrophobic surface. We have investigated fibroblasts’ behavior on each fluorine gas plasma treated and untreated SF nanofibrous mats. It is observed that the fluorine gas plasma treated SF nanofibrous mats showed highly suppressed cell attachment and proliferation behavior. |
