The oxidation of the lanthanum chloride(LaCl3) in LiCl-KCl eutectic molten salt has been carried out using the oxygen gas sparging method. Oxychloride(LaOCl), regardless of the oxygen sparging time(0-420 min) and the temperature(723-1023 K), was formed as a result of the oxygen gas sparging, which was proved from an XRD analysis of the precipitates in the eutectic salt melt. The kinetics of the oxychlorination reaction were estimated and the first-order kinetics gave the best matches. From the obtained reaction rates, the pre-exponential parameter, A(=1.529/min) and the activation energy, Ea(=44.28 kJ/mol) were determined by Arrhenius plot. The first-order reaction model evaluated by this study gave reasonable predictions for the concentration of the LaCl3 in LiCl-KCl eutectic molten salt with the time and temperature. |
