Today many self-assembling methods to establish nano-structured organic materials have been attracting increasing attentions. Among these self-assembling methods, hydrogen bonding is one of the powerful tools for assembling molecules and building organized molecular structures. And, columnar liquid crystals have been studied due to their potential application to the nano-structured material. It is very essential to introduce polymerizable groups to liquid crystal for the fixation of liquid crystalline state. The objective of this study is to synthesize a new type of hydrogen-bonded columnar liquid crystal which containing polymerizable groups, and to research the change of the liquid crystalline phase. Prepared columnar liquid crystal was analyzed through 1H NMR, and hydrogen bond availability was confirmed through FT-IR Spectroscopy. Structure of liquid crystal was confirmed using polarized light microscope and X-ray diffraction, and thermal behavior of liquid crystal examined by DSC. |
