제목 | Various Attempts to Functional Molecules: Electrochromic Polymer and Block Copolymer Synthesis |
초록 | During the past 2 years of research in our laboratory, we have focused on the synthesis of various organic molecules that have unique functions such as electro-optical property, self-assembling property, chemical linking property, and biological activity. In this talk, two subjects relevant to polymer synthesis among our currently rolling projects will be covered. The first subject in this talk is the synthesis of electrochromic polymers with enhanced performance. In order to achieve higher electrochromic contrast, we have devised a new strategy that employed coupling of two cooperative electrochromic elements at monomer design step. A new monomer that integrated two well-known electrochromic moieties, viologen and EDOT, was prepared and its electropolymerization resulted in new electrochromic polymer P(EDOT-V) with much enhanced electrochromic contrast. When the same strategy was applied to BEDOTPh system, the multichromism of BEDOTPh was much more flourished as the result of introducing two viologens to the side chains of BEDOTPh. The second part of the talk will cover the recent work in the area of block-copolymer synthesis in our laboratory. We have developed an easier way of preparing nitroxide initiators starting from commercially available materials that allows easy access to PEO-b-PS diblock copolymer or PS-b-PEO-b-PS triblock copolymers with good molecular weight control and narrow polydispersities. In addition, we also have synthesized new alkyne-group containingg block copolymers, PNB-b-PPND and PNM-b-PPND, via ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) by employing the new Grubbs catalyst with very good molecular weight and polydispersity control. A study of selective complexation of cobalt metal to the alkyne-containing block will be briefly mentioned during the presentation. |
