Poly(vinyl alcohol) is a biocompatible polymer having high mechanical properties and excellent resistance to alkali and oxygen together with innoxious nature to human. Thus, the use of PVA nanoparticles as drug-carrier system is an very attractive possibility to achieve controlled drug release. At first, to prepare high molecular weight (HMW) syndiotactic (s-) poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) used in this study, vinyl acetate and vinyl pivalate were bulk-copolymerized using a low temperature initiator, 2,2'-azobis(2,4-dimethylvaleronitrile). Water-in-oil emulsion system using high-pressure homogenizer was used to prepare diclofenac-loaded HMW s-PVA gel nanoparticles. The effect of process parameters on the size, its distribution and surface morphology of HMW s-PVA gel nanoparticles were investigated. And, prepared s-PVA gel nanoparticles will be compare with the atactic PVA nanoparticles prepared in previous study in terms of mechanical and surface morphological properties. |
