Carbon nanotubes-based materials may have a variety of excellent properties by functionalization with different molecules such as metal, inorganic, organic compounds, and polymers. In this study, the nanostructured inorganic cage-like polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane(POSS) molecules were employed to form hybrids with multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWNTs). Isobutyl-POSS was employed to synthesize the MWNT-POSS hybrids. The MWNT/POSS suspension was reacted at 60 oC using isoamyl nitrite, followed by filtration. This study reports on the controlled decoration of MWNTs with POSS molecules, and their structure, morphology, and properties are investigated by measurements of FT-IR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, SEM, and TEM. It was shown that the controlled decoration of POSS assembly on MWNTs was dependent on the assembly process due to functionalization of MWNTs.
