Diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-benzothiadiazole (BTZ) copolymers have attracted great interest recently due to their high potential for use in ambipolar organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). To date, most ambipolar OFETs have been reported to give unbalanced hole-dominant bipolar charge transport. Therefore, it is highly desirable to enhance n-channel characteristics in ambipolar polymeric semiconductors toward applications in organic complementary circuits. This can be achieved by introducing strong electron-withdrawing substituents such as fluorine, cyano, or diimide moieties into the polymer backbone. The polymer backbone turns into electron deficient states, which results in the increment of electron affinity and the decrement of LUMO energy levels. Herein, we report on high performance ambipolar OFETs using DPP-BTZ conjugated polymers substituted with fluorine groups. The resulting OFETs exhibited enhanced electron transporting characteristics with more stable n-channel operation. |
