In this study, OTFTs using pentacene as a active layer with polymeric gate dielectrics were fabricated on the plastic substrate and maximum current of order of 80 micro-A was obtained with field-effect mobility of 0.2 cm2/Vs. Using this organic transistor, a new driving method was proposed and demonstrated. We could obtain 180 cd/m2 at current density of 5 mA/cm2. From the investigation of the work function effect of metal electrode to the performance of the OTFT, the mobility increased abruptly as the work function increased up to around 4.3 eV, and after that it increased slowly in log(mobility) vs work function of the metal electrode. We could obtain around 3 cm2/Vs using top contact geometry on Si/SiO2 substrate. Using plastic substrate with polymeric gate dielectrics, the field-effect mobility was obtained as 2.59 cm2/Vs, and this is the highest value so far to our knowledge. Plastic inverter was also fabricated using organic insulator and its electric characteristics were presented.
