We synthesized rod-coil block copolymers composed of regioregular poly(3-alkylthiopene) (P3AT) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) via anionic coupling reaction. When the number of carbon (n) at the side chain of P3AT is 6, the final morphology was driven by self-crystallization of P3HT moieties due to strong rod-rod interaction. Thus, we employed poly(3-dedecyl thiophene) having longer side chain (n = 12) instead of P3HT to reduce rod-rod interaction, resulting in the phase separation of block copolymer induced by rod-coil segregation. We prepared four P3DDT-b-PMMA block copolymers with different compositions, and investigated their self-assembled morphologies at the temperature higher than the melting point (Tm) of P3DDT using small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS), wide-angle x-ray scattering (WAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). |
