Castor oil-based Polyurethane Biocomposites Reinforced by Nanocellulose |

Recently, development of bio-renewable feedstocks for polyurethane such as plant-oil became highly desirable in industrial field because of steadily going up price and environmental aspect as well as sustainability of petroleum oil used as feedstocks for polyurethane. In this research, the bio-based PU foam was synthesized by reaction between isocyanate and castor oil used as polyol. The thermal and mechanical properties of the castor oil-based polyurethane were investigated. The nanocellulose of eco friendly nanofillers was also prepared by chemical and mechanical treatments in order to reinforce the castor oil-based polyurethane. The nanocellulose/castor oil-based polyurethane biocomposites were prepared by solvent casting and the effect of nanocellulose on thermal and mechanical properties of the nanocellulose/castor oil-based polyurethane biocomposites were investigated.
