Water-soluble conjugated polymers have attracted interest due to their potential applications in DNA-sensors, photovoltaic cells, emitting layers and electron injecting layers in polymer light-emitting diodes. Water-soluble conjugated polymers have environmentally friendly water-soluble nature and ability to form multilayer with organic soluble conjugated polymers. Generally zwitterionic materials are used as self-assemble structure in biochemistry. The self-assemble structure can lead to the formation of large aggregates such as micelles, bilayers, or vesicles. We synthesized water-soluble polyfluorene derivatives containing cationic ammonium and anionic sulfonate ions by the palladium catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction. Optical properties depends on aggregation properties of these novel zwitterionic conjugated polyelectrolytes based on the polyfluorene structure are discussed. |
