Binder has important roles in not only transportation of proton from catalyst layer to electrolyte membrane but also adhesion between electrodes and membrane, because binder layer connects between catalyst layer and membrane. Ion monomer Nafion is used often as a binder for some electrolyte membranes such as Nafion, sPEEK, sulfonated poly (arylene ether sulfone) membrane and so on. Nafion binder gives high performance for these membranes, but it is not good for Homo-sPEEK membrane (the membrane with sulfonated slowly in mix methanesulfuric acid and sulfuric acid). In other to investigation of binder on membrane, the Nafion, Hete- Speek and Homo-sPEEK membrane were operated with Nafion, sPEEK binder and other different Nafion-sPEEK binders. The results shown that, for Hete-sPEEK and Nafion membrane have good performance with Nafion binder; sPEEK binder is suitable for Homo-sPEEK membrane and furthermore mixes binder Nafion-sPEEK have been surveyed in this report. |
