Gelatin from cold fish skin has strong mechanical properties and biodegradability. Gelatin has been chemically modified by sol-gel reaction using vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS) to provide crosslinkings for waterborne polyurethanes (WPUs) via UV curing, where the WPUs were synthesized from polycaprolactone diols (PCLs), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), dimethylol butanoic acid (DMBA), and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA). It was found that the mechanical properties measured by UTM and shore A hardness have been improved with the addition and increasing content of VTMS modified gelatin (VG). The biodegradation experiments have been carried out in trypsin enzyme solution and in the soil to simulate soil burial conditions. |
