Thermally stable, flame retardant, and low dielectric polymers were prepared by thermal polymerization of cyclotriphosphazenes bearing acetylene or styrene groups. In the DSC study, the cyclotriphosphazene containing acetylene groups showed a sharp endotherm for melt transition at 200 oC, immediately followed by a strong exotherm due to inter- and intramolecular reactions of the acetylene groups. The styrene containing cyclotriphosphazene showed a sharp melt transition peak around 100 oC and a broad exothermic peak for the thermal reaction of styrene groups above 150 oC. The 5% weight loss temperatures of the cross-linked polymers measured by TGA, were above 470 oC. The polymers showed very low dielectric constant and dielectric loss values and excellent flame retardancy. |
