Pyrene-Functionalized Block Copolymers Coupled with Quantum Dots to Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes |

Single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) have high mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. On the other hand, commercial applications of the SWCNTs have restricted due to poor processability. Many studies have been tried to improve their processability by introducing covalent functionalization for SWCNTs. However, this functionalization might cause lowered conductivity of SWCNTs because of breaking of sp2 hybrid orbitals. Here we have taken advantage of the π-π stacking interactions between pyrene and SWCNTs as a possible alternative to covalent functionalization. Pyrene-functionalized block copolymers terminated with thiol units were coupled with SWCNTs. Quantum dots (QDs) were attached to the pyrene polymers-SWCNT complexes through coupling of the QDs with the thiol moieties in the pyrnene polymers. The structures were confirmed by TEM, SEM and UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy. Such composites are expected to be useful for electronic and photonic applications. |
