Bulk heterojunction materials consisted of donor and acceptor parts, sandwiched between electrodes, have shown excellent performance in photovoltaic applications. The donor-acceptor bulk heterojunction structure enables efficient charge transfer from excited polymer chains to the electron acceptor molecules which are in close proximity to the polymers. In this paper, we report the synthesis and characterization of new alternating polythiophene copolymers based on electron donor-acceptor-donor units. These polymers showed absorption in the visible range of the solar spectrum. The composite films with PCBM were sandwiched between ITO/MoO3 and Al, LiF metal electrodes to make working photovoltaic devices. |
