The use of chemically modified (epoxidation and dichlorocarbene modification) and reclaimed prophylactics rejects in unmodified and chemically modified (maleic anhydride/dimethylol phenol) polypropylene was investigated. Chemical modifications were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, chemical analysis, glass transition and contact angle measurements. Presence of characteristic peaks in FTIR, increase in the glass transition value and decrease in contact angle and thermal stability indicated the presence of modification ion prophylactics while in polypropylene, FTIR was used to confirm the modification. Tensile strength of modified polypropylene increased with the use of epoxidised prophylactics while in the case of impact strength, reclaimed prophylactics was better.
