Versatile Fe3O4/Gold Core/Shell Nanocarriers for Near-Infrared Photothermal Therapy of Cancer |

In this research, we synthesized hybrid Fe3O4 nanoparticles-Polystyrene/Gold core/shell nanoparticles, Fe3O4 NPs-PSt/Au NPs, via miniemulsion-emulsion combined polymerization and co-precipitation method. Fe3O4 NPs-PSt/Au NPs composition was confirmed by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FT-IR). The crystalline structure of Fe3O4 NPs/Au nanocarrier was investigated by X–ray diffraction analysis (XRD). The Fe3O4 NPs-PSt, Fe3O4 NPs-PSt/Au NPs and Fe3O4 NPs/Au nanocarrier were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. UV absorbance of Au shell was confirmed by UV-vis spectroscopy (UV-vis). In addition, diagnosis and treatment of cancer cells were implemented after injecting the nanocarriers into the HepG2 cells in an MTT assay. Finally, the strong contrast deriving from Fe3O4 NPs was demonstrated in phantom experiments for T2- andT2*-weighted images. |
