Thermal and mechanical properties of epoxy resins modified with epoxidized castor oil and nano-Al2O3 particles |

In this study, the effect of nano-Al2O3 and epoxidized castor oil (ECO) content on the thermal stabilities and mechanical interfacial properties of diglycidylether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA)/ECO/nano-Al2O3 ternary composites was investigated using several techniques. The morphology of the composites was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As a result, the thermal stability of the composites decreased with the addition of ECO and nano-Al2O3. The mechanical interfacial properties of the composites were significantly improved by the addition of ECO and nano-Al2O3. The flexural strength of the composites exhibited a maximum value at 3 wt% nano-Al2O3. The SEM micrographs showed that tortuous cracks occurred, thus preventing the deformation and cracks propagation in the DGEBA/ECO/nano-Al2O3 ternary composites. |
