Modulation of molecular weight, charge ratio, and pH effect properties of high purity chitosan oligosaccharides for Efficient Gene Carrier |

To develop chitosan-based efficient gene delivery, chitosan oligosaccharides (COSs) with various molecular weights were studied for gene transfection agents. The in vitro gene transfections revealed that COS-mediated gene deliveries are strongly affected by the MW of COS, COS/DNA ratios, and pH of the transfection medium. The COS9 (MW 9000 Da) showed Lipofectamine compatible high gene transfections at the carrier/DNA weight ratio of 30 in the transfection medium pH of 6.5 or below. With its excellent safety profiles, COS9 may be considered a potential candidate for efficient non-viral gene carriers. |
