Cellulose is a most abundant naturally occurring organic substance. It is main component of cell walls in plant and even exists in bacteria, algae, some marine animals (e.g. tunicate). Cellulose has many attractive properties for alternative of synthetic polymer including abundance, biodegradability, processibility, superior mechanical properties, low density, etc. In this study, we extracted cellulose nano fibers(CNF) from tunicate by TEMPO-mediated oxidation(TOCN), sulfuric acid hydrolysis(SACN) and made CNF neat films by filtration method. We analyze CNF using scanning electron microscope(SEM), transmission electron microscope(TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Thermal Gravimetry Analysis(TGA), etc. SACN has higher crystallinity than TOCN, but TOCN has higher aspect ratio than SACN, and with increased hydrolysis time, aspect ratio and crystallinity of SACN was increased. We compared other properties of CNF with crystallinity and aspect ratio. |
