We have tried to develop new self-extinguishing plastics without use any flame retardants containig halogen or phosphorous atom. Materialgenerating high char by heating is desirable tosupress combustion effectively by protecting oxygen and by thermal insulation. We have focused on 1,2-bis (4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyne as core materialto formchar materialand prepared 1,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyne containing co-polyarylates together with bisphenol-A and isophthaloyl chloride. These co-polyarylates were characterized by 1H NMR, GPC, TGA and DSC. The fire-resisting property of polyarylateswas evaluated by Pyrolysis Combustion Flow Calorimetry (PCFC), which showed that the polyarylates are very promising new self-extinguishing plastics. |
