Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) were covalently functionalized with biodegradable poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL) by using click chemistry. First, PCL including chlorine moiety was synthesized by the copolymerization of α-chloro-ε-caprolactone with ε-caprolactone monomer, and then was converted to azides moiety-containing PCL. The alkyne-functionalized CNTs were prepared with the treatment of p-amino propargyl ether using a solvent free diazotization procedure. The covalent functionalization of alkyne-derived CNTs with azides moiety-PCL was accomplished through Cu(I)-catalyzed Huisgen[3+2] dipolar cycloaddition click chemistry. Due to the biocompatible nature of PCL, the resulting material may possess an important role in biomedical systems and bionanomaterials for multifunctional applications.
