In the energy industry, proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are very attractive energy sources for the power of vehicles, building, and small electronics. Especially, the operating PEMFCs on high temperature have many strong points which increase reaction rate of fuel with electrode and decrease poisoning of Pt catalyst due to carbon oxide. NafionTM, commercialized polymer electrolyte, is used widely that has good mechanical, thermal properties and chemical stability. However, it is limited due to very high cost and low performance at high temperature. In this study, sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymer(SPAES)/inorganic hybrid membrane was prepared for high temperature PEMFCs. Because SPAES membrane has lower proton conductivity than NafionTM, inorganic additive was intercalated using in-situ sol-gel method. Hybrid membranes were investigated by proton conductivity at high temperature, water uptake, and dimensional stability. |
