제목 Sidewall functionalization of carbon nanotubes using benzoyl peroxides
초록 We examined the sidewall functionalization reaction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with benzoyl peroxides by means of Raman, FT-IR, and TGA analysis. Differently from the previous reports, the benzoyl oxy moiety as well as the phenyl group appeared to attach on the sidewall of CNTs. The benzoyl oxy moiety-attached CNTs (BZO-CNTs) were hydrolyzed to produce the hydroxyl group-functionalized CNTs (CNTs-OH). In the attenuated-total reflection (ATR)-IR spectra, the C=O stretching band was found at 1725 cm-1 for BZO-CNTs, while a broad absorption band at 3360 cm-1 was observed due to the hydroxyl groups for CNTs-OH. TGA data indicated approximately 70 and 10% weight loss occurred after the detachment of benzyl oxy and phenyl groups at 250oC and 400oC, respectively. Temperature-dependent Raman spectra showed that benzyl oxy and phenyl moieties could be eliminated via thermolysis.
