Effect of pore structures on acetaldehyde removal efficiency behaviors of activated carbon |

Recently acetaldehyde has caused concern to the people while harm to human health. In this study, coconut shell derived activated carbon was prepared using steam activation in order to enhance acetaldehyde removal ability. All the precursors were carbonized at 700°C for one hour and the steam activation was carried out at 900°C for 10 to 70 minutes. The morphology and crystal structure of activated carbons were observed by SEM and XRD, respectively. The textural properties were studied by BET, BJH, and HK equations with N2/77K adsorption isotherms. The acetaldehyde removal ability of activated carbon was observed by GC-MS. As a result, the specific surface area of activated carbon increased as the activation time increased. Also, the acetaldehyde removal efficiency of activated carbons was determined by the textural properties of activated carbons. |
