A novel star shape pyromellitimide (PI) with two arms of triphenylamine and the other two arms of cyanophenyl, N,N’-bis(p-cyanophenyl)-3,6-bis(triphenylamine)-N,N’-pyromellitimide (CTPI) was synthesized via 4-step process. First, 3,6-dibromo-1,2,4,5-tetramethylbenzene (2B4MB) was oxidized to afford 3,6-dibromopyromellitic acid (2B4BA). Next, the 2B4BA was reacted with 4-aminobenzonitrile, providing N,N’-bis(p-cyanophenyl)-3,6-dibromo-N,N’-pyromellitimide (CPI). Finally, the CPI was subjected to Stille coupling reaction with 4-trimethylstannyl-triphenylamine (TPA-tin) which was synthesized by bromination of triphenylamine, followed by lithiation, resulting in CTPI. For comparison, a pyromellitimide with four arms of triphenylamine, N,N’-bis(triphenylamine)-3,6-bis(triphenylamine)-N,N’-pyromellitimide(TTPI), was also synthesized. The pyromellitimides were characterized, and optical and electrical properties were also evaluated by fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-VIS and CV. |
