Nafion®, as a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM), is widely used as DMFC membrane, but also has critical limitation due to its high methanol permeability. In this study, we prepared a new type of PEM by dispersing PPy/PSS particles in the Nafion matrix near the anodic electrode in order to maintain proton conductivity and decrease methanol permeability. PPy/PSS particle was synthesized by chemical polymerization using ferric(III) chloride(FeCl3) as oxidant and PSS as dopant. The prepared PEM was characterized by DSC, SEM, EDX, XRD, 4-probe impedence, water uptake and methanol permeability. |
