Thermo-Sensitive Anodized Aluminum Oxide Membrane |

Recently, membrane engineering has received great research interests because on-demand switching of active mass transfer through membrane layer is critical both in most biological systems and many smart micro devices such as sensors and valves. In our research, thermo-sensitive membrane was prepared through mussel-inspired engineering of anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane. Incorporation of catechol functionalized copolymer having both 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) and N-isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAM) on AAO membrane provided stimuli-responsibility for both on temperature and pH. From the decrease of both water droplet contact angle and buffer solution transport rate above lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of copolymer, ‘wettability’ controlled regulation mechanism of mass transfer rate through engineered AAO membrane was proposed. |
