제목 Photonic Capsule Sensors: A New Platform for Microenvironment Monitoring
초록 Capsule-type microsensors can operate in narrow space or can be dispersed in large space for measuring the distribution of conditions. However, electric circuits in conventional sensors are not suitable for microsensors due to the size limits. To overcome the limits, colorimetric properties make microsensros possible to operate without electric circuits. Among the several techniques for colorimetric properties, photonic crystals can be the best for microsensors due to their high reflectance and ease of designing for target sense. In this research, microcapsules containing colloidal photonic crystals are generated with microfluidic devices. To form the colloidal crystals inside the microcapsules, depletion force is applied for the stability of crystals even in high temperature. Furthermore, core-shell nanoparticles with a polystyrene core and poly-N-isopropylacrylamide shell are used as building blocks of photonic crystals and give colorimetric properties to the microcapsules for sensing temperature change. Resulting microcapsules have red color in the room temperature, and it turns to green in 40 degrees Celsius.
