The optical resolution of α-amino acid such as the optical isomer of tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylalanine were performed by the pressure driven separation process, using self-supporting crosslinked sodium alginate(SA) membranes. The crosslinked SA membranes have been prepared by using glutaraldehyde(GA) as a crosslinking agent, and were investigated for experimental conditions, such as the various kinds of feed solution and the degree of crosslinking. The result showed that the membranes were permeable with respect to the D-isomer of tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylalanine in preference to the L-isomer, and exhibited the better optical resolution for tryptophan than other feed solutions. In addition, the enantioselectivity of the membrane for racemic mixtures of α-amino acid were depended on the crosslinking agent. |
